James Stevenson, Managing Director

James started his career in 1987 at The Fenchurch Group in international broking of specialised non-marine risks.

After 8 years he moved with his colleagues to JK Buckenham Ltd., charged with diversifying the company into non-marine business. Then in 1999 he founded Chesterfield with the same team and was instrumental in the Group’s expansion into the US and Canada. In 2008 he was appointed group managing director.

Gary Hirst, Executive Director

Gary began his career at Fenchurch Insurance Brokers as an International Property Broker, rising to Director in charge of the Property and Construction Division.

He joined JK Buckenham Limited property team in 1994 before departing to establish Chesterfield Insurance Brokers with the existing management team. Gary has worked his whole career in the London market and is responsible for new business production, the design, placement and servicing of national and multinational corporate customers, and the management of our offices in the USA and Canada and is a Board Director.

Andrew Thacker, Executive Director

Andrew began his full time employment at the Fenchurch Group in 1983 where he was responsible for the International Employee benefits, Contingency operations and the Lloyd’s Names Personal Stop Loss programme.

After thirteen years at Fenchurch he left to become a founding shareholder and Director of Chesterfield Insurance Brokers Ltd specialising in the production and placement of Employee Benefits, Contingency insurances and the development of various Personal Lines underwriting facilities.
Board responsibilities extend to include the UK retail division, Technical service support, IT functions and Group Claims.

Alan McGraw, Chairman

After graduating with a Law Degree, Alan became a retail Insurance Broker in South Africa specialising in Professional Liability and "difficult to place" Liabilities.

Recruited to the Fenchurch Group in 1987 to run the International Liability Division he left in 1994 to lead a team of International wholesale brokers at J.K. Buckenham.

He moved with the team to set up Chesterfield Group, first as Managing Director and currently as Chairman.

He continues to trade in the market on a daily basis, focussing on all forms of Liability, Motor and development of new opportunities

Ratna Supramaniam, Operations and Compliance Director

Ratna has been a broker for over twenty years. Originally from Malaysia he was recruited to place Far Eastern risks in London. He has previously worked for Willis, Nelson Hurst, Marsh and Miller. His area of expertise is in construction and engineering insurances.

Since 2001 he has been with the Chesterfield Group and in addition to his broking he is the Operations and Compliance Director.
